Dear DPS families and community,
This is a friendly reminder that starting next Monday, December 8, we will begin our trial run of the new parent drop-off and pick-up loop at the back of Douglas Primary School. This change is designed to improve student safety, allow emergency vehicles easier access to our campus, and reduce traffic congestion for our neighbors on Birch Street.
Morning Drop-Off (Back of DPS via Logsdon Lane)
Please take Cheyenne Street to Logsdon Lane and follow the road to the back of the school (behind the outfield of Nida Field).
At the end of the road, the loop will look and feel very similar to our current front loop.
A crossing guard will be stationed near the batting cages. Please stop and wait until the crossing guard signals for you to move forward into a cone space.
We will still use six construction cones for parking; the crossing guard will assign you a cone number to pull into.
Front Loop Access
During morning drop-off, the front loop will be closed.
If you arrive after 7:58 AM, please return to the front of the building to drop off your student once the back loop has closed.
Afternoon Pick-Up
Afternoon pick-up will follow the same loop procedures in the new back loop.
The barricades will open at 2:45 PM to begin the pick-up process.
Families Who Walk to Pick Up Students
Families who currently walk to the front office to pick up their children may continue to do so. This option is not changing.
Please continue to follow the usual check-out process inside the front office.
For families needing early pick-up, please note that the front loop will be chained off during regular drop-off and pick-up windows; if you need access during those times, call the DPS office at (307) 358-3502 for assistance.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to keep our students safe and improve traffic flow around DPS. We appreciate your patience as we try this new system and will keep you updated throughout the trial period.
With appreciation,
Scott Rickabaugh
Principal, Douglas Primary School

Thank you again, DPS families, for your continued patience and cooperation as we work through our Logsdon Lane drop-off trial. We wanted to share a few important reminders to help keep mornings safe and smooth for everyone:
⏰ 7:55 AM – Logsdon Lane Drop-Off Closes
At exactly 7:55 AM, the barricade will go up on Logsdon Lane. At this point, no additional drop-off will take place, as staff must be inside the building to support all students and prepare for our morning assembly.
🚪 8:00 AM – Front Entrance Reopens
At 8:00 AM, the front entrance will reopen for students who arrive late. Families will need to park and walk their student into the office.
⚠️ Front Loop Closure Reminder
During winter break, the chain that normally blocks the front loop was accidentally damaged. While we work to have it repaired and reinstalled, we are using green safety men to indicate that the front loop is closed.
👉 Please do not drive around or move the green safety men.
If they are still in place, families will need to park on the street and walk their student to the office.
🚗 Important Drop-Off Expectations
Please use Logsdon Lane for morning drop-off.
If you will not make it to Logsdon Lane drop-off loop by 7:55 AM, please go directly to the front of the building, park, and walk your student in.
We have seen an increase in front-loop drop-offs, which leads to confusion and frustration. Consistency is key to keeping everyone safe.
Thank you for continuing to work with us during this trial period. Your support truly helps us create a safe and orderly start to each school day.
📩 If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Rickabaugh, DPS Principal.
🐾 Together, every step, every paw.
As we prepare to welcome students back into the building tomorrow, we want to share an important health reminder with our school community. We are currently seeing an increase in flu-like illnesses, especially following holiday travel.
Please take a moment to review the attached flu information flyer and help us keep everyone safe and healthy. If your child is not feeling well or is experiencing flu symptoms, we ask that they stay home until they are symptom-free and fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
The Flu has arrived
We truly appreciate your partnership in:
✔️ Keeping sick students home
✔️ Practicing good hand hygiene
✔️ Supporting healthy habits like rest, hydration, and nutrition
Together, we can help reduce the spread and keep our DPS community learning and thriving. Thank you for your continued support and care for one another 💙🐾

As we head into winter break, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Douglas Primary School families. Your support, partnership, and trust mean the world to us, and they make our school community truly special.
There will be no school from December 20 through January 5. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, January 6.
We hope this break brings you time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy the holiday season together. Thank you for being such an important part of the DPS family—every step, every paw.
Wishing you a joyful and restful holiday season! 🐾✨

This calendar cycle will be brought to the CCSD #1 Board of Trustees in February before being submitted to the State Department of Education for final approval.
If you are interested in reviewing these calendars and providing input, a public input opportunity is scheduled for
Monday, December 22nd from 12:00 PM—1:00 PM
Douglas High School Recreation Center

We want to express our sincere appreciation for how smoothly the transition to our Logsdon Lane drop-off and pick-up trial run has gone this week. Our parents and families have been absolutely incredible—flexible, patient, and supportive every step of the way. Your partnership truly makes all the difference. 🐾❤️
After reflecting on our first few days, we will be making one small adjustment starting Monday, December 15th:
⏰ The drop-off loop will now close at exactly 7:55 AM. (Instead of 7:58 AM)
This ensures that our staff can be inside the building with students for our morning assembly and ready to start the day on time.
We know mornings can get busy, and we appreciate everyone doing their best to arrive before 7:55. When staff need to close the loop while families are still arriving, it can be challenging. So this clear, consistent closing time will help us keep routines smooth and safe for all students.
Thank you again for your continued support, patience, and positivity during this trial run. Our DPS community is something special. 🐻💙

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow from 5–6 PM in the DPS Gym for our DPS Bearpaws Holiday Open House! We’ll have cookies, crafts, books, and a very special surprise guest (🤫🎅). We can’t wait to celebrate the season with you!
💙 A huge shoutout to our amazing DPS parents!
Today was our very first day using Logsdon Lane for parent drop-off, and you absolutely crushed it. Thank you for your patience, positivity, and flexibility as we work together to improve safety and efficiency for our students. You made the morning smooth, safe, and successful—and we appreciate you!

We’re excited to welcome all of our DPS families to a joyful evening of cookies, crafts, books, and a very special surprise guest! 👀🎅
Join us Tuesday, December 9th, from 5–6 PM in the DPS Gym as we kick off the holiday season together.
It’s going to be warm, fun, and full of Bearpaws spirit—hope to see you there! 💙🐾💛

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is an Early Release Day at Douglas Primary School.
⏰ Students will be dismissed at 12:50 PM, following our normal Friday schedule.
Also—there will be NO SWAG tomorrow.
Thank you for your flexibility and for helping us keep everything running smoothly as we head into the holiday weekend! ❤️💙🤍
We appreciate you, DPS families!

Power has been restored and school is in session today, November 14, 2025.
